Privacy Policy
WakeLab is a wakesurf analysis app for iPhone. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it. The short version: your videos are analyzed on your iPhone, there are no accounts, and nothing is sent to a server run by us.
Who is responsible
WakeLab is operated by Tobias Kern, Switzerland. Contact: support@wakelab.app.
What the app processes
- Videos and photos. When you import a clip from your photo library or record one in Live view, the app analyzes it on your device to track your pose and board. Videos are not uploaded to us.
- Camera and microphone. Used only in Live view to track your pose in real time and to record clips with sound. Nothing is transmitted.
- Location. Used only while you record, to measure and display boat speed. It is stored with the run on your device (and in your iCloud if sync is on), never sent to us.
- Your runs and settings. Analysis results, scores, notes, and preferences such as stance and units are stored on your device.
iCloud sync
If you are signed in to iCloud and iCloud Sync is switched on in Settings, your saved runs and small settings are synced between your own devices through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit private database and iCloud key-value storage). This data lives in your personal iCloud account. We cannot access it. You can turn sync off in WakeLab's Settings. Apple's handling of iCloud data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy.
Subscriptions
WakeLab Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through the App Store. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We do not receive your name, payment details, or Apple ID. The app only checks with Apple, on your device, whether your subscription is active.
What we do not do
- We do not collect personal data on any server.
- We do not track you or share data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We use no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. Crash reports are only what Apple provides through the App Store and TestFlight, if you choose to share them with developers in iOS settings.
- We do not require an account.
Sharing
If you export or share a video or image with the iOS share sheet, it goes to the app or person you choose. That is your decision, and their handling is governed by their own policies.
Retention and deletion
Your data stays on your device until you delete it. Deleting a run in WakeLab removes it from your device and, if sync is on, from your iCloud. Deleting the app removes local data. You can also remove WakeLab's iCloud data under iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
Your rights
Because we do not hold your personal data, there is nothing on our side to access, correct, or erase. You control your data directly in the app and in iOS. If you are covered by the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection or the GDPR and want to exercise a right or ask a question, write to support@wakelab.app.
Children
WakeLab is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone.
Changes
If the app's data practices change, for example if we add a service that handles data, we will update this page and the date above before the change takes effect.
